In celebration of Pride Month, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Cloudera’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group Leader, Peyton Kettering, for this month’s Employee Spotlight. Our conversation with Peyton focused on his work in Cloudera Sales, important lessons learned, and his perspective on Pride Month.
About Peyton
Peyton is an Account Executive (AE) in Cloudera Sales and has been with the company for over three years. He manages the sales cycle, prospects, and converts new business, while also maintaining and developing existing client relationships. Peyton’s daily responsibilities include researching accounts, reaching out to them, and developing sales plays with various internal teams across functions such as marketing, engineering, or customer enablement, making sales a team effort that requires tight coordination.
Outside of work, Peyton resides in Austin, Texas with his boyfriend and three pets, enjoying the vibrant bar and restaurant scene and participating in fun competitive activities like Trivia nights and Pickleball.
From organizing political campaigns to developing sales plays, it’s all about connecting with people.
Despite studying Political Science and Communications at the University of Texas at Austin and taking an interest in student government, Peyton never imagined ending up in a sales role. His passion for civic engagement and politics, as well as his enjoyment of connecting with people, has remained evident in his current role at Cloudera.
Starting at Cloudera as an Inside Sales Representative, Peyton developed and fine-tuned his prospecting and lead-generation skills, exceeding his quota for two years before transitioning to the role of Account Executive.
The dichotomy that works together: Innovative individuality and the power of collaboration.
Peyton’s favorite aspect of working at Cloudera is the people and the collaborative atmosphere. The strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork creates a supportive and inclusive workplace culture while celebrating individuality and promoting innovation, enabling empowered individuals to explore new avenues of technology and pipeline generation tactics.
The dichotomy between individuality and collaboration prevalent in the Cloudera culture has taught Peyton to never be afraid to ask for help and has helped him grow both personally and professionally.
Pride Month: A celebration and a time to work towards a better tomorrow.
As the leader of the LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group at Cloudera, Peyton finds Pride Month particularly important. He emphasizes the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights and the need to address discrimination, promote equal rights, and create a more inclusive society where LGBTQ+ individuals can live authentically and without fear.
Outside of Cloudera, Peyton remains active as an election site worker and a volunteer voter registrar, further supporting his passion for politics and civic engagement.
