Argentina: Recommendations of the Agency of Access to Public Information to protect personal data on the internet

In honor of International Data Protection Day on January 26, 2024, the Agency of Access to Public Information (AAIP) released their “Recommendations to protect personal data on the internet”.


The AAIP provided the following five recommendations to users of any digital platform that involves sharing personal data:

  • Read the privacy policy: This tool provides information on data use, protection, and companies with which data is shared.
  • Use secure sources: Download applications from secure sites to prevent data or identity theft.
  • Adjust privacy settings: Define what data to share and manage access permissions for various features.
  • Browse on secure internet networks: Connect to reliable internet networks and avoid using public networks for sensitive information.
  • Know the communication channels to exercise rights: Access channels to rectify, update, or delete personal data stored in databases.

The AAIP also reminded readers that if entities fail to fulfill their data protection obligations, citizens can file a complaint before the AAIP free of charge.
