Capella Space Corp has announced a groundbreaking partnership with TCarta to incorporate high-resolution SAR satellite imagery into TCarta’s coastal monitoring and shoreline feature extraction solutions.

This collaboration aims to provide more consistent and accurate identification of coastline changes, equipping coastal managers with up-to-date information to effectively mitigate the impacts of climate change.

The rapid rise in oceans and melting glaciers is reshaping ecosystems and posing a threat to the livelihoods of coastal communities around the world. This phenomenon is particularly prevalent in the Arctic region, where melting permafrost and sea ice are drastically altering the coastal landscape. Understanding the rates and underlying causes of shoreline change is crucial for coastal managers to address the hazards faced by local communities and their ocean-based economies.

Traditional earth observation technologies often struggle to reliably map coastal features and measure shoreline changes due to variable conditions such as changing tides, darkness, and cloud cover. These challenges are especially persistent in coastal regions and at higher latitudes. However, TCarta’s innovative technology overcomes these obstacles by leveraging Capella’s automated satellite tasking system to synchronize SAR imagery collections with real-time tidal fluctuations with minute-based accuracy.

As an early adopter of the Capella Space Analytics Partner Program, TCarta seeks to accelerate its research and development efforts with high-resolution SAR technology to enhance its state-of-the-art hydrospatial models. The company has now become a Certified Analytics Partner, unlocking a host of exclusive benefits including opportunities for product and market collaboration, as well as continued access to Capella’s extensive imagery archive.

“By being part of the Capella Space Analytics Partner Program, TCarta aims to leverage space-based technologies to enhance human understanding and planning for climate change impacts,” said TCarta founder and President, Kyle Goodrich. “The integration of Capella SAR in TCarta’s coastal datasets provides our clients with more accurate and actionable information.”

“TCarta boasts unmatched expertise in remote sensing and hydrospatial analysis. We are excited to further elevate our partnership to enable coastline managers to leverage the full value of 24/7, all-weather SAR imagery and automated tasking to mitigate the impacts of climate change,” said Dan Getman, Vice President of Product at Capella Space.
