The new year brings a myriad of new possibilities, along with ongoing challenges. For any business, maintaining an enterprise’s database environment is a key responsibility for database storage.

Nihal Mirashi, principal solutions marketing manager at Pure Storage, and Marsha Pierce, global practice lead for databases at Pure Storage, recently joined DBTA‘s webinar, Navigating Database Storage Challenges in 2024, to discuss various methods and best practices for scaling storage infrastructure to meet the growing demands of data.

Mirashi emphasized that the trends for 2024 are not necessarily new but have remained significant and will continue to do so in the year ahead. One of these trends is the outcome-based world driven by data, complicated by the projected exponential data growth reaching 180 zettabytes by 2025, according to Statista. Data professionals are challenged to manage this massive growth and harness its power for positive business outcomes.

Mirashi also pointed to the automation of database operations driving the transformation of roles, such as database administrator to data architect, data analyst to business intelligence engineer, and data quality engineer to data scientist.

Furthermore, the rapid growth of AI is disrupting every industry and will continue to do so in 2024. This will have a huge impact on data infrastructures, emphasizing the need for data mobility, performance, protection, and hybrid cloud success.

Pierce explained that Pure Storage’s approach to these challenges accommodates the evolving roles of database professionals, offering top-tier performance, accelerated data, flexible cloud deployment, consolidation of workloads, no service disruption, and forward-thinking data protection.

Pierce highlighted the importance of data reduction in handling exponential data growth, with Pure Storage delivering in-line and deep background deduplication and compression for cost mitigation and better infrastructure use.

In addition, Pure Storage’s FlashArray solution offers easy migrations, automated workload movement, reliable snapshots, rapid data replication, cloud usability, and seamless upgrade processes without downtime.
